Health and Safety is at the top of the Company's
Busines Objectives. The hazards and risks associated
with coalmining are amongst the most serious of any
industry. The dangers from falls of ground and explosions
are as real today as they were at the turn of the last
century. Indeed, with the underground workings extending
5 kilometres from the shaft and at a depth of over 600m
even minor incidents can have a severe effect on the
health and safety of persons working underground.
The company believes that by setting high standards and by ensuring that persons who work at Tower Colliery are suitably trained and supervised then the risks arising out of coalmining can be minimised.
The company is proud that the standards and accident record are amongst the best in the U.K. and are committed to further improve the accident record at Tower Colliery. This is achieved by taking a pro-active approach to accident prevention and by seeking new initiatives to involve persons in their own safety.
