History In The Making - The Story So Far...

During 1995 production resumed at Tower Colliery and
our position was consolidated in the market place.
Customers began to realise that they were receiving
a high quality product at a fair competitive price.

High volume output mining depends upon continuity
of working and development workers were driving the
access roads for future panels

During the period 1995 to 1998 Lonwall Retreat Panels
were developed and extracted these included V41, V38
and V43.

The current working panel is the V39 which is scheduled
to finish in Autumn 1999.

Development workers are currently driving access roads
for V40 and V45, these two panels will last into 2001.
The main arterial roadways will now be extended to allow
access to the V47, V49 ..... V54 which will allow working
well into the next millenium.

As a successfull company we began to set about improving
the terms and conditions for the workers/shareholders and
several improvements were made.

* Wages were improved
* A contributary pension was introduced
* 38 days holiday a year
* Profit related pay introduced
* Dividends paid on shares
* Sick pay scheme introduced
* Concessionary housecoal

    Tower had recently diversified from its core business
    by acquiring the prepacked coal outlet "Welsh Dragon".
    Which was facing closure following the liquidation
    of the previous owners, saving seven jobs in the
    process.

    The achievement over the last 18 months have seen
    Tower Colliery become :-

* Improved conditions of employment.                        * Creation of nine extra jobs during 1995.

* Exports, rather than Imports of coal.                        * Has won "Best Home Grown Company" in
                                                                               the 1996 Mid Glamorgan Business Awards.

* Made contributions of 52,000 to local sporting,         * Wealth created by Tower remains in the local
charitable and cultural organisations-concentrating        community.
on involvement of young people.
