Cwmcarn Grant
Maintained School

One of a handful of schools to 'opt out' of
direct Local Education Authority control
following the reorganisation of the Unitary
Authorities in 1994, Cwmcarn has consistently
maintained a high standard of education by
offering a wide range of subjects to pupils
within the catchment areas of Blaenau
Gwent, Islwyn, Torfaen and Newport County
Borough Councils.

On behalf of the School, the Bursar purchases
the day to day requirements for this busy
educational establishment - including energy
supply. And with apportioned funding a key
issue, parents and governors need to be
assured that "Best Value" is achieved in the
purchase of all goods, materials and services
supplied to the school.

Tower Coal, with its high heating values and
low ash and sulphur content meets the range
of school requirements, including space
heating and hot water services. It facilitates a
well-controlled environment within the school
buildings and easily caters for the shower
room demands of school teams following
regular sporting fixtures. In addition, school
catering facilities can comfortably supply hot
meals to pupils and teachers alike, every day
of the week.

Approximately 150 tonnes of Tower anthracite
grain is consumed by the central Boiler Plant.
Delivered by a pneumatic blower vehicle at a
price below 0.6 pence per kWh, Tower coal
provides a highly cost effective supply of
energy to the school on a year round basis.
