Bryn-Y-Cae Residential Home for the Elderly is
The home was purposely built in a bungalow style
in 1986 by Mid Glamorgan County Council and
comprises three distinct living areas. Two of these
cater for elderly but frail residents, whilst the third
area is designed for the special needs of the elderly
mentally infirm.
Each wing is staffed by its own day and night
nursing teams, but the overall aim of Bryn-Y-Cae is
to encourage and empower the service users to
maintain their own independence.
The two frail but elderly wings have twenty nine
beds between them, whilst the EMI unit has eight
beds. These are serviced by a range of core
facilities including three lounges, dining rooms,
a large community room and small private areas
for rest and relaxation. An external patio area
also provides safe recreation during spring and
summer.
Technical Details
In order to provide heating and hot water services
throughout the year, two fully automatic coal-fired
boilers are located in a central boilerhouse. Fired
by Tower anthracite grains, these boilers are
sequenced to meet the changing external weather
conditions and provide Bridgend County Borough
Council with "Best Value" in energy supply and
management.
